Properties Can Attract A Premium If Located Near Supposedly Haunted Sites!
If you’re selling your property in Worcester, you may wonder what you can do to increase your asking price when the time comes to sell. While there are several tried-and-tested measures you can take yourself, such as renovating your kitchen or converting your loft, there are also some surprising things that you have no control over but which could boost your property’s value.
Believe it or not, if your home is located near a supposedly haunted site, you could potentially add an impressive premium to your house price!
A recent study analysed house prices in postcodes close to haunted castles, areas where paranormal activity has been reported, and ghost trails before comparing those prices with properties in other locations. It was discovered that a property in a spooky spot could be worth almost £60,000 more than a similar home in a less ghoulish location!
Location Counts
While living near “haunted” locations was shown to give most house prices a boost, there are some areas that appear to be more popular with “paranormal hunters” than others. For example, properties near the famous Essex site of Hangman’s Hill, where drivers can experience the apparent anti-gravity phenomenon, have values that are over £200,000 higher than an average Essex property.
Homes close to Somerset’s Farleigh Hungerford Castle also command asking prices that are almost 50% more than a typical Somerset home, with prospective homebuyers seemingly willing to pay over £500,000 for the somewhat dubious pleasure of living within easy reach of the murderous ghost of Lady Hungerford!
Affordable Apparitions
If you’re trying to sell a property next door to a location known for its ghostly activities, you might be feeling excited at the possibilities right now. However, don’t get carried away! It seems that the research also revealed that, while some supposedly haunted areas could attract surprisingly high prices, other spooky sites prove to be far less popular with house hunters and, in fact, sometimes come in at lower values than comparable local properties.
For example, homes close to Birmingham’s Aston Hall – where hauntings have allegedly taken place since the 1600s – currently have house prices around 40% below the average in the West Midlands, while homes close to Doncaster’s Conisbrough Castle, with its supposedly “intense” paranormal activity, are currently priced at around 30% less than the South Yorkshire average.
Making A Profit From The Paranormal
While there may not be a particular demand for homes in every haunted spot, rumours of ghostly activities don’t deter UK buyers from purchasing. That’s probably just as well since there is no shortage of supernatural sites nationwide, all of which have properties in their nearby areas!
If you’re trying to sell a property just a few steps away from a haunted house, you’ve probably got nothing to worry about when it comes to attracting potential buyers, and you could even find that you can add a spooky premium to the value of your home!
